Child Kidnapping

The world is never a safe place for children as the country is one again shocked by the news of the missing Nayati Shamelin, a twelve year olds Dutch citizen. He is said to be abducted by two men in a balck car while he was on his way to school. And not long ago, a girl named Sharlinie binti Nasyar a 5-year olds girl went missing after playing at a playground near her flats and she is still missing up until now. Some of the missing child were lucky enough to be found alive but prayers goes to those innocent children which were brutally killed , burned and buried. They were all innocent children just like any other kids, still very new to this world and have not learned who to trust and those who not. The question is that why did these cruel incidents occur and what are the consequences to us?

The world is full of people of different kind, that is just how life is. Everyone is hoping for a world with peace and harmony where there is no bad guy, no serial killer and no crime committer but that perfect world do not exist. So, a young child alone and unsupervised is like a free ticket to child kidnapping. Therefore the root for this crime can be track back to their parents. These crime only happen to those children with no supervision at the time of abduction. So, parent is to be blame for letting their children wandering around alone and unsupervised. To prevent abduction of children in common or know place such as school area, Dr Anne Arundel, an American psychotherapist strongly suggest that every children is to be teach the rules of safety when being outside the house. The rules include always say no if a stranger asks to go with him or take a ride and say no and go tell a trusted adult if someone tries to touch part where it is uncomfortable, etc.

When we first heard this terrible child kidnapped and killed news, we were shocked, because we merely cannot believe a human being can commit these unwarranted actions against another human being and, especially, against innocent children. But thing like this happen and it has open our eyes to not to put trust towards the surrounding people that we are living with. We may say that we do know some of them but ask again ,do we really know them that well? This question is fairly important because a research on child abduction in Malaysia has revealed that 49% of child kidnapping has been done by relatives of the victim or “ family kidnapping”. While most reason behind‘ family kidnapping’ is to get ransom form the kidnapped family, other reported cases where the kidnapped child was raped and killed was done by crazy psychopath. These people should be catch and be put into mental hospital because they may takes an innocent life and not to feel anything wrong about that.

According to Geogia K.helgeman, M.A and writer of Vanished Children’s Alliance, “ families where abduction occurred may have experienced pre-stressors that is stress in these people’s lives before their children were abducted. When a child is abducted, the incredibly severe stress is then added to past stresses. This stress feeling can bring great devastation toward the family as it can cause domestic violence, separation, divorce, child abuse, neglect, lost of a job or housing and financial insecurities.” Stated clearly here that the effect of lost is very much intolerable for some families. The feeling of lost is not only be felt by their parent alone but also the left-behind family members which include siblings, stepparents, step and half siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and others, will suffer as well.

However looking into the positive side, when a child is reported missing or kidnapped, it alarmed the surrounding s to be more careful on caring for their children. Parent especially will become more protective and learnt the lesson on not to leave their children alone and unsupervised anymore whenever their youngster go to play at the playground or go to ‘pasar malam’.

To sum up, the increasing of child abduction cases today’s left lots of impact not just toward the victim, but also the parents and society. Stress and trauma changed the life for both the abducted child and their parent forever. Increasing of awareness among society, fear, insured feeling and faded trust toward each other are some of the consequence of the incident to the society. Last but not least, from all the main point above us can see that this cruel incident left many negative effects than the positive to us.
